How to Troubleshoot Google Chrome Crashes

chrome-dead-tab
If you are regularly seeing the “Whoa! Google Chrome has crashed” message, there is likely a problem on your system. An occasional crash can happen, but regular crashes are probably caused by something you can fix.
If you are curious just how often Chrome is crashing, you can type chrome://crashesinto your location bar and press Enter to view a list of crashes and when they occurred. This is just one of Chrome’s many hidden chrome:// pages.

Check For Conflicting Software

Some software on your computer can conflict with Google Chrome and cause it to crash. This includes malware and network-related software that interferes with Google Chrome.
Google Chrome has a hidden page that will tell you if any software on your system is known to conflict with Google Chrome. To access it, type chrome://conflicts into Chrome’s address bar and press Enter.
You can also check the Software that crashes Google Chrome page on Google’s website for a list of software that causes Chrome to crash. The page includes instructions for solving conflicts with some conflicting software.
If you have conflicting software on your system, you should update it to the latest version, disable it, or uninstall it. If you are not sure which software a module is related to, try Googling the name of the library.

Scan for Malware

Malware can also interfere with Google Chrome and cause it to crash. If you are encountering regular crashes, you should scan your computer with antivirus software likeMicrosoft Security Essentials. If you already have antivirus software installed, you may want to get a second opinion from another antivirus program.

Solve Flash Crashes

We have found that the Flash plugin Chrome includes can cause it to crash in some cases. If you are seeing regular Shockwave Flash crashes, you may want to try disabling the internal Flash plugin and using the standard Flash plugin in Google Chrome.

Switch to a New Profile

Chrome crashes may be caused by a corrupted profile. You can test this by creating a new profile from Chrome’s Settings screen. Open the Settings page from Chrome’s menu and click Add new user under Users.
Change to the new profile after creating it and see if the crashes continue to occur. You can sign into Chrome with your Google account to sync the data from your old profile. However, Google recommends you don’t copy any files from the old profile folder by hand – they may be corrupted and causing the problem.

Fix System File Problems

Google recommends running the SFC.EXE /SCANNOW program to check for – and fix – problems with protected system files on your Windows system if you are encountering crashes. To do this, locate the Command Prompt in your Start menu (press the Windows key and type Command Prompt), right-click it, and select Run as Administrator.
Type the following command in the Command Prompt window and press Enter:
SFC.EXE /SCANNOW
Windows will scan your computer for problems with system files sand fix any problems it finds.

Hardware issues can also cause Chrome crashes. You may want to test your computer’s RAM and ensure it isn’t faulty.

Facebook Messenger for Windows

Facebook has launched Facebook Messenger for Windows. Facebook Messenger is similar to the age old Yahoo Messenger that we all have been using.

With Facebook Messenger, you can chat with your Facebook friends, check the latest updates from your friends and also get notifications.

The app will be residing in your Windows system tray. Just right click on Log in and it will open your browser. You need to provide your login credentials. Keep the “Keep me logged in” option on the login page checked. Once your have successfully logged in, you can close your browser and the Messenger will continue to deliver messages and notifications.

Never forget to Log out of Facebook and the Messenger if you are on a shared computer.

You can also minimize or collapse the sidebar by clicking the close button “x” at the top right corner. However closing will still keep you logged in and you will still get your notifications and updates.

Limitations :

  • Only for Windows 7
  • Chatting with a group is not possible
  • Video calling not yet supported
  • Other settings like limiting chat availability are not yet activated.
  • It is a trial application. So you are bound to expect some bugs.

Temple Run 2 – iOS review

31 JANUARY 2013

WRITTEN BY vATSAL sHAH

Every so often, maybe once every three months, a mobile game comes along that consumes my life.
It’s more important than work, favorite television shows, and conversations with loved ones. I’m pulled to another universe and I can’t escape its clutches until I reach a high score that’s impossible to beat. Hours have been poured into games like “Angry Birds,” “Fruit Ninja,” and “Ski Safari,” but now a new game has joined the ranks. That game is “Temple Run 2.”

I was turned on to the original “Temple Run” late in its life. It never really grabbed me like it did so many others. It was a quick fix, but committed the cardinal sin of free mobile games: It felt like it was free.
“Temple Run 2” builds on the original formula, adding better visuals, tighter controls, a variety of environments, and RPG-esque elements that add to replay value.
You still tap the relic to begin, and the character begins a terrifying run for his or her life. A snarling beast chases you over cliffs, chasms, deadly obstacles, and now caves.
For those who haven’t played before, the runner is on a non-stop rail until something stops him or he falls off the path. Swiping to the right or left changes direction and upward makes the character jump, which comes in handy when encountering obstacles. Tilting to the right or left leans your character. This helps to collect coins, which adds to your score.
“Temple Run 2” throws in mine cart rides a la “Donkey Kong Country.” You’ll randomly encounter a cave on your run that drops you in a mine cart, controlled by tilting the device. Reaching the end of the cave will drop you back on foot.
Power ups are also new to the series. Hovering icons randomly appear that grant a shield, a speed boost, and a magnetic ability that attracts gems. Here’s where the mobile equivalent of RPG elements come into play. Coins can be spent to strengthen these power-ups, or unlock new characters with their own special abilities.
Adding to the new features that have been borrowed from other popular mobile titles, “Temple Run 2” has a list of tasks that increase your character’s level when completed. Leveling up earns you gems.
Gems can also be purchased by microtransactions and then used to resurrect your character after a death, making it possible to improve upon your score. I have some mixed feelings about this, as essentially this means you can buy a high score.
All of these new features combined with the improved “Temple Run” gameplay make for a truly addictive experience. I had to take breaks while writing this piece just so I could play it again. The fact that it’s free makes it a must play. Download “Temple Run 2” for iOS and say goodbye to your real-life surroundings for a week.

How to Troubleshoot Mozilla Firefox Crashes

firefox-crash-embarrassing

Firefox can crash for a variety of reasons, but you can quickly fix most crashes with Firefox’s Safe Mode and Reset features. However, even these tricks won’t fix every crash.
Web browsers are complicated pieces of software that interact with lots of other software on your system – extensions and themes, plug-ins, security programs, graphics drivers, and more. Incompatibilities or out-of-date software can often cause crashes.

Use Safe Mode

Firefox has a Safe Mode that loads Firefox without loading your add-ons. To activate Safe Mode, click the Firefox menu, point to Help, and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled. You can also enter Safe Mode by holding the Shift key while starting Firefox.
Try using Safe Mode for a while if Firefox is crashing. If Safe Mode works properly, the problem is with one of your add-ons. You may want to leave Safe Mode and disable add-ons one-by-one until you identify the add-on causing the problem.

Reset Firefox

Firefox stores your personal data in a profile folder. Problems can occur with your profile folder, but you do not have to waste time identifying and fixing the exact cause. Firefox’s Reset feature will create a new profile folder, migrating over your bookmarks, browser history, saved passwords, cookies, and auto-fill information.
You will lose your extensions, themes, search engines, and site-specific preferences when you reset Firefox. Extensions and themes in particular can cause crashes, so getting rid of them and starting from a clean profile can be helpful.
To reset Firefox to its default state, open the Firefox menu, point to Help, and select Troubleshooting Information.
Click the Reset Firefox button. Firefox will create a new profile for you and migrate most of your old information over. The new, clean profile should hopefully fix your crashes.
If Firefox starts crashing again after you reinstall your favorite extensions, one of your extensions is likely causing the crashes. Try reinstalling extensions one-by-one to identify if a particular extension is causing problems.

Disable Hardware Acceleration

Firefox’s hardware acceleration feature uses your computer’s graphics card to render text and objects on web pages. This speeds up web page rendering and takes some load off your CPU. However, hardware acceleration can cause problems with some graphics drivers and graphics cards.
You can determine whether hardware acceleration is the problem by disabling it. To do so, click the Firefox button and select Options. Click the Advanced icon and uncheck the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox.
Try using Firefox for a while after disabling this feature. If Firefox stops crashing, hardware acceleration was likely the problem. You can try installing updated graphics drivers and see if they fix the problem. If they don’t, you should leave hardware acceleration disabled on your system.
Note that you should not disable hardware acceleration if everything is working properly, as this is a useful feature.

Check for Malware

Malware can cause Firefox to crash, just as it can cause other programs to crash on your system. If Firefox is regularly crashing, scan your computer with an antivirus program likeMicrosoft Security Essentials. If you already have an antivirus program installed, you may want to get a second opinion from another antivirus program.

Update Software

Mozilla recommends updating the software on your system if Firefox is crashing. Here is a list of everything you should update:
  • Firefox: Click the Firefox menu, point to Help, and select About Firefox. Download and install any available updates.
  • Plug-ins: Visit the Firefox plug-in update check page. The page will scan your browser for outdated plugins. Follow the links to download and install updates for any outdated plugins.
  • Extensions and Themes: Click the Firefox button, click Add-ons, and select Extensions. Click the gear menu and select Check for Updates. Install any updated add-ons.
  • Windows: Use Windows Update to ensure Windows is up-to-date.
  • Graphics Drivers: Install updated graphics drivers to fix problems with hardware acceleration.
  • Internet Security Software: Install the latest versions of any firewalls, antivirus programs, Internet security suites, and other security applications installed on your system.

Hardware problems can also cause Firefox – and other software – to crash. Try checking your computer’s RAM for errors if crashes continue to occur.

How to speed up your android device without rooting

Here are a few tips on how to speed up your android device.

Don’t use live wallpapers

Use just a regular image as your background. animated wallpapers slow down your device

Remove widgets that you dont need

Why are they there if you dont need them 🙂 just tap and hold on a widget and drag it to remove it.

Change your Launcher settings

– If your launcher ( that thing that your apps and widgets are on ) has options, go to options and see if you can use less homescreens, for example, some launchers, have 5 screens, some 7, and you can change the number, just select the lower number, if you need 3, and others are just empty, you dont need them…
– Disable animations, some animations look good, but they are just images, that slow down your device.
On froyo: Menu > Settings > Display > Animation > No animations.
On ICS: Menu > Settings > Developer options > Window animation scale and Transition animation scale > Animations off.Animations off

– One of the best launchers out there, and my favorite is LauncherPro, it is faster than any other, but it doesnt have a lot of options for customization. so try it out on the market.

Less Phone Memory More Speed

Most phones have Phone memory (internal memory) and SD card memory (external memory). Phone memory is the one that is inside the phone, and SD card memory is the memory card (micro sd) that is placed under the battery. Older android phones could only store apps on phone memory, and that would fill up phone memory and slow the phone down. After 2.2 (froyo), android has an option to install apps to SD card memory, that will free up phone memory and speed up your phone. Only some apps can be installed or moved to sd card. Next few tips can be done easier using an app called App 2 SD.
Most android phones start to slow down if they have less than 40MB of free space on phone memory.
App 2 SD tutorial: Once you are in the app, there are 3 app categories: Movable, On SD card and Phone only. Movable are the apps that can be moved from phone memory to SD card memory. SD card are the apps that are on sd card memory. Phone only are apps that cant be moved. Under each app there is the size that app is taking on phone memory. When you move app to sd card memory, the app wont be fully moved, only some stuff would be moved, but that is better then nothing. Some apps wont work when they are moved to sd card memory, so move them back if they dont work.

app 2 sd

Uninstall apps that you dont use

The more space the phone has, the faster it will work. also some apps run in the background, you dont see them, but they are slowing down your phone, so by uninstalling apps, you will free up both space, and speed it up.
App 2 SD tutorial: You can uninstall the app by tapping on it, and clicking “Uninstall” button.

Move apps to SD

UninstallMoving some apps from your phone to your sd card memory will free up some space on internal and speed your device.
move 2 sdcard
App 2 SD tutorial: You can move app from internal to sd card memory by going into Movable category, taping on the app that you want to move and clicking “Move to SD card” button.

Clear Cache

Cache are temporary files that are stored on your phone, after their use, they dont do anything but take up space. Most apps store cache files. So once in a while you should clear cache to free up phone memory.
clear cache info

App 2 SD tutorial: To Clear cache, once you are inside App 2 SD app, press menu button and select clear cache. this will delete cache and tell you how much cache you had.

You could do much more on speeding up your phone if your phone is rooted, there will be a tutorial on how to speed your phone if you have root.

Google Now on Non Jellybean devices

For this trick you will need an app that is installed on all android phones, app called talk, that is an instant messenger for google. (allows you to chat with your friends)

What you need to do is click on Talk application, click in the top right corner to add a contact
adding a contact

add this contact

guru@googlelabs.com
adding guru

After you have added the contact, wait until it turns green and then click on it.
click

Now you can start asking questions
talk with guru

You can ask it to tell you facts, weather, score, translate stuff…

Use it like this:

score TEAM
weather in England
define WORD
translate WORD
web WORD
calculate FORMULA

Apple iPhone 5S with 13MP camera coming in July

A KGI Securities analyst says that Apple is working on an iPhone 5 successor that will have features like snappier processor, fingerprint sensor, better camera and more powerful flash.
NEW DELHI: Apple launched iPhone 5 with much fanfare just five months ago, but reports say the company is already working on not one but two iPhones as well as next generation iPad and iPad mini.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst with KGI Securities, says that Apple is working on an iPhone 5 successor that will have new features like snappier processor, fingerprint sensor, better camera and more powerful LED flash. Kuo’s claim of fingerprint recognition system gains a little credence from Apple’s 2012 acquisition of Authentec, which deals with this technology.

Coming to the cheaper iPhone being developed by Apple, Kuo says this device will be same as iPhone 5 but will be a little stockier. Instead of the aluminium body and waistline of 7.6mm, the cheaper iPhone will have a plastic casing and measure 8.2mm around the sides. He also said this device will be available in six colours, a rumour that has done rounds in the past as well.

Technology blog iLounge has also reported about the upgrade in camera sensor, saying that the upcoming phone may have Sony’s 13MP unit. The report also says that the two prototypes under development are named N51 and N53.

Over the past few weeks, there have been reports of Apple facing low demand for iPhone 5. However, the company’s CEO Time Cook shot that down by saying, “The supply chain is very complex and we have multiple sources for things. Yields can vary, supplier performance can vary. There is an inordinate long list of things that can make any single data point not a great proxy for what is going on.”
